This certainly has been a different experience so far, and day one has not even ended yet. I'm Brayan, I am currently attending a camp called "Migrant Leadership Institute". I don't really know what to expect from this program but I am willing to participate and give as much into this as i am expecting to get back from this program. What exited me the most is the fact that we will be living in dorms, which will give us a feel for the college lifestyle and how living away from home feels like. A guest speaker talked to us about taking advantage of all the opportunities that the world has to offer. While speaking to us she took the time to share some of her personal background and how she got to where she is currently at the moment, her story was quite inspiring and it made me realize that if you really want to achieve something yo must never give up and put in as much into as as you are expecting to get back from. I'm really hoping to learn many things from this program, which I'm sure i will and hopefully this experience can help me become a better person.
A very challenging course
This course, (as given by the name) proved to be quite a challenge. going in to the course i was expecting to be challenged physically but as i soon discovered we also had mental challenges that we had to overcome as a team. Once we got through all the mental challenges we began to interact with the physical course. All the obstacles proved to be a challenge and even though they were tough they were still pretty fun.I'm pretty sure i was not the only one who felt exhausted after we finished our designated time in the course. after the challenge course we went bowling, which was extremely fun. I had a chance to meet new people during our time at the bowling alley and i also worked on building better friendships with those i had already met before.
Throughout my time here i have learned things that i probably wouldn't have learned anywhere else. My group leaders and mentors have been incredibly nice and helpful with any sort of situation that i have stumbled upon during my staying at OSU. I have learned to take other people's opinions into consideration as well as to help them step out of their comfort zone. I have also learned that although me might all have different looks and personalities, deep down we are all Mexican, we all come from similar roots, basically we all have similar backgrounds and that is what makes us come together and work like the team that we are. i hope to apply all of the skills that i have learned to my everyday life and any sort of situations that will come forth in the near future.
